Brownies sweep up in Victoria Gardens

June 23, 2015
We invited the Brownies to help us in Victoria Gardens.  One hour later the park had been swept and flowerbeds watered. The girls were also able to check the sunflowers they had grown, which have recently been re-planted at the park.

A surprise picnic followed with food being provided by a local hotel, The Hop Pole, to reward the girls for their hard work. The evening finished with a badge presentation - each girl had worked towards gaining a gardening badge.   Well done young ladies, we hope you can join us again soon.

'In memory' planters now available

June 23, 2015
This year we have had a number of enquiries from members of the public who wish to commermorate loved ones in a special way.   We have some beautiful spots in town where we have placed planters, overlooking the river.

We invited these individuals to help plant up the planters, and choose special wording for their signage. We hope this has made it really special for the families.

Residents raise funds for plants

June 23, 2015
Residents from Tewkesbury Town North Residents Association recently held a jumble sale on the green!  Thrifty householders donated unwanted goods, and plants were also grown (thanks Mike) to sell so we guess that's green recycling (pardon the pun).

Well done to all and a grand total of £126 was raised in just 2 hours for Tewkesbury in Bloom projects.

Town centre planting - done by volunteers!

June 15, 2015

A big thank you to all the volunteers who turned up on Sunday morning to help us make a great start on the planting of floral tubs in the town centre.  We had around nine individuals lend a helping hand and it certainly made light work of a very large task!

Next Sunday morning our focus turns to The Crescent and Back of Area areas of town.  We are meeting at 10.00 am at the Crescent, roll up your sleeves and get dug in (pardon the pun) if you would like to come and help us.  Everyone is welcome.

And we're off!

June 9, 2015

The town centre planting has started.

We planted up the boat floral displays at the weekend which grace the entrances to the town to give a positive impression for the town's visitors.

The boats have been planted with Canna for height and the trailing begonias should offer non-stop colour throughout the summer. It all looks blooming marvellous!

We're getting stuck in with the weeding!

June 1, 2015
We have set up a community weeding party and every Sunday morning we are inviting individuals and groups to join us from 10.00 am to tidy up 'grot spots'.

Jan clears weeds from Back of Avon next to the moorings

Last Sunday we finished our work at Back of Avon.  This is a popular place for visitors to the town - a tranquil place at the back of the high street where you can sit or walk by the river or for the more adventurous explore The Ham, an ancient water meadow full of flora, flora and wildlife including birds such as the Red Kyte and Corn Bunting.

There was even time to finish off a bit of painting in the high street!
This shows Chris and Pete painting the last few wooden planters.

Marigolds set off town's history

May 25, 2015

400 marigolds were planted today at the '1471' bed on the corner of Gloucester Road and Lower Lode Lane by volunteers, Chuck & Dot. This celebrates the history of the town and marks the year of the decisive battle in Tewkesbury between the Yorks and Lancastrians.

Local company step in to help us water

May 22, 2015

This is a picture of the wild flower bed at the 1471 corner. This is a triangular plot of land between Gloucester Road car park and Lower Lode Lane.  Two local residents, Martin and Marilyn Dale have adopted this small garden and turned it into a haven for wild life and a beautiful place for visitors to sit and relax (even have a picnic.

The difficulty is that there is no water supply so a local business, Roberts Express Delivery, have offered to use their courier van to drive a water supply to the garden. This is really useful as we've just planted sunflowers, which will look amazing at the height of summer.

Banner brightens up empty space

May 22, 2015

We really could not decide where to display the RHS Finalist Banner, to its best advantage.  Then we realised it would make a great display in an empty shop window so that's where it is.  It certainly brightens up what otherwise would be a dull empty window for passers by.

Brownies gain their gardening badges

May 22, 2015

This month we've been working with the youngest Girl Guides, the Brownies,to help them work towards their gardening badges.  The girls enjoyed planting up sunflower seeds, and have taken them home to grown them on, to see who can grow the tallest plant!

The surplus seedlings will be planted at Victoria Gardens for the public to view and for the Brownies to admire their gardening work!
