Volunteering leads to generous donation

December 13, 2014

If you think the Bookworm charity shop in the high street is just for picking up a good read or a bargain book or two, think again.  Manager Karen Brennan has created the busiest and probably the most hard-working volunteering hub in the town. Behind the unassuming wooden bay window with its neat book display, volunteers beaver away supporting all kinds of local good causes through various fundraising activities. We are the latest community group to benefit and are due to receive a cheque for £1,000.  It will go a long way in supporting the town’s entry in the national Britain in Bloom competition.

Fun quiz raises funds

December 3, 2014

We had a fun evening at The Bell Hotel in November  even though we were small in number with only 4 teams for our Quiz.

Many thanks to Emma for hosting us at the Bell hotel and also to Glyn the Quiz Master.

Raffle and prizes were kindly donated by Cornerways Nursery, Woody's Fruit and Veg, Mark's Plant stall in the Market and committee members.

We made a total of £71 for the funds. Not a huge amount but every little helps!

Town's railway station will be blooming lovely

November 27, 2014

Volunteers from Ashchurch & Tewkesbury District Rail Promotion Group have built a community garden at the town's railway station.  A length of land at the side of the platform has been cleared and a number of wooden planters will be planted up ready for the 2015 growing season.

We are so proud of the volunteer's achievements and we are looking forward to seeing the garden in full bloom.

What's more we will be about to shout out about this fabulous project and add details to our portfolio which will be submitted to the judges just before judging day.

Fingers crossed for Lottery Funding from 'Grow Wild'

November 25, 2014

This picture shows the entrance to the American Garden of Remembrance which is located in the heart of the town centre behind the Town Hall fronting on to  Back of Avon overlooking the river.  Its a large grassed open space, with huge potential. Currently it is very much under used, and as there is no signage, is easily overlooked.

The garden is a memorial to the American troops who served during WW2 and were based locally.

We have identified Lottery Funding from an organisation called Grow Wild which is able to fund 60 projects in 2015 to create inspiring spaces for the community using UK native plants.

We have lodged our application for £4,000 worth of funding and will hear around February next year if we have been successful.

The garden enjoys beautiful views of the river and The Ham

Planters in The Crescent

June 26, 2014
Planters in The Crescent

There are just two large planters remaining in The Crescent available for sponsorship.  Each is beautifully presented and prominently  positioned off the main road at the side entrance gates to the Abbey so would make an ideal way to promote your local business. The cost is £80 per planter.  If you would like to find out more information please contact Marion Badham on 01684 295336

Poppies

June 1, 2014
The poppy seeds obtained from one plant last year and sprinkled along the verge side near Morrisons have produced a wonderful display.

The summer plants are gradually being removed and the tubs in the High Street have been planted with yellow and orange Violas. These blend well with the brown tubs and dark phormium and make a welcome splash of colour.
